50. Filming Days 5 (House)

I made the decision to re-film everything. That is quite an irritating decision, for both me and Talia, but with how poor it looked, I knew it was the right decision. I had done this last year and you get more comfortable with what you're doing the second time, plus I get to shoot more, based on the editing.

To get a more natural movement, I decided to have us act out entire scenes, rather than what's just in that shot. This was to have a more seamless transition with the movements from shot to shot in editing.

Unfortunately, I removed the jumping scene. Talia told me that she was uncomfortable with doing it, so I decided to remove it and have her walk and then scare me. This completely removes an entire section on how of an bubbly and carefree character she is from the start of the film (now it is revealed more in the park when she says "Look swings!", the middle of the film. I completely understand why she didn't want to do it and I wished that she communicated that earlier so I had time to adjust the film for that. This is more of a reason why I should not have had a friend help with the acting in the film because I prioritize her over the film. That sounds bad, but I want my film to work, with someone who also wants it to work.

For the Hallway scene, Andrew had suggested I darken the walls around the shot, so the audience focuses more on LI, rather than the bright, white walls. I tried to close windows and open some doors to let some light in, but it would not fit/light her enough. The issue was now there was no light around the area and Talia's expressions couldn't be seen at all. I decided to suck it up and do it the same way I had before. At least she can be seen.

For the Vase shots, the white chrysanthemum blended to much into the white couches in the background. I decided to change the chrysanthemum to be the one that grew out of my mouth instead. Along with the fact that LI would not just have a bouquet of flowers with her, because before I wanted the flowers in the vase to represent a number, to mean 'I love you'. This scene would happen directly after V has died, so she couldn't spawn a whole bouquet of flowers.

Now, the new idea was the one in V's mouth. This could mean LI ripped it out of V or she cut it off, either way you look at it is quite disgusting. Having both of the flowers be bloody also, 100%, confirms to the audience that both of the characters have the disease. Plus the two contrast so much with the background and forces the viewer's attention there.
